The History of Chip's
Past...
In 1987, Chip Rutledge, following one of his life long dreams, decided to open Chip's General Store. It was a country roadside convienece store, offering basic necessities and unique, hard to find merchandise.
In 1990, Chip and his wife Jeannie decided to make the transition from general store to bar and grill. This took a major remodeling job. Where the bar and kitchen are today was the walk in drink and food cooler. The old stage (beside the ladies' restroom) was the check-out counter and register. The mens' bathroom was the outside public restroom. They built the back of the bar on and had a deck constructed.
Chip and Jeannie made the bar and grill one of the most popular places to be in the neighborhood. Serving beer, wine, chicken wings, and our now famous burgers they made a name for themselves in Barrow County.
They also offered live local music on the weekends with such bands as Winder's own Full House, Chip's own band Quickdraw and many others. It became a neighborhood bar with a friendly atmosphere, good food, and great live music.
Over the years Chip leased the building and new owners brought in their new businesses. But whatever their place was about or what they offered, the name remained the same.
Present...
Today Chip's Bar and Grill is again in the hands of the original owners. Chip, Jeannie and their daughter Kadee. Chip's has become not only a popular local establishment, but one of the most well known blues bars in the state of Georgia. Chip's has had Atlanta Rhythm Section, Mothers Finest, Levon Helm, and Leroy Parnell; just to name a few, play on their stage. In 2001, Creative Loafing named Chip's Bar and Grill the #1 Blues Venue in Atlanta. Chip's has also been praised by Atlanta Magazine, The Atlanta Journal and many others!
You will find at Chip's outstanding and talented musicians every weekend and a fun and electric atmosphere. Whether you visit for lunch, dinner or just come to party you will be waited on by the best wait staff in the world! Chip's waitresses and bartenders, Kadee, Kim and Ben make the tastiest drinks and always have a friendly smile for you. And the Chip's chefs, Gretchen, Matt, and Mike will always prepare your food to perfection!
From 1990 to 2005 we have appreciated all the support and praise that we receive from our patrons and thank you all for letting Chip's Bar and Grill be your favorite little hole in the wall!!
